This renovation took a 70’s house with good bones but an inefficient layout, and a rear barn that lacked a stable foundation, and transformed them into a new home with adjacent arts studio and workshop. The simple front elevation was kept intact, while increased window sizes and positions helped to maximize views of the river. From the street, the house maintains its traditional form, but as you approach the structure a distinctly modern form is revealed, with spaces that blur the distinction between indoors and out and engage and activate the site. The interior was opened up and reconfigured to provide better circulation and access to light. The barn was raised, and a foundation added to support the new workshop, studio space, and bird-watching studio.
